Honeymoon – Simon Says Excursion

The second excursion that we took on our honeymoon, while staying at Sandals Grande St. Lucian, was the Simon Says tour. This excursion is not booked through Island Routes, like many of the others are, but directly through a partnership that Simon has with the Grande. We had heard amazing reviews of this tour from a couple who honeymooned in St. Lucia not long before us and knew we had to try it out.

The morning of this tour, we boarded a speed boat to take us from the resort and down the western shore of the island. We stopped first at the beach at Anse Chastanet for some snorkeling.

This beach is located at the base of the Jade Mountain resort, so again we got an awesome view of the unbelievable hotel as we snorkeled.

The coral and underwater life in this area was much more abundant than what we had seen during our snorkeling trip at the foot of the Gros Piton, which made snorkeling in another location just as fun as the first time.

Once we had our fill of the underwater world, we returned to the speedboat and made our way to Soufriere. Once there, we again loaded into vans and were escorted up the mountain to Sulphur Springs and the mud baths.

Fun fact about Soufriere – many years ago, when the city was the capital of the island, there was a fire that destroyed everything except for this church that stands in the middle of the city. Being surrounded by four streets, basically being on its own block, is what saved it from catching fire with the rest of the houses and buildings!

This next part of the excursion was a repeat for us but ended up being a better experience at the mud bath than our first one.

We were supplied with, what they called, mud bars, to apply the mud to each other and had a much better coating than our first visit!

I thought we looked like avatars this time!

photo PicMonkeyCollage1.jpgThe water was even hotter than the last time and Simon found it appropriate to dump buckets full over my back as Brian washed the mud off of me – not cool, Simon, not cool!

After everyone had time to mud bathe, we headed off to Simon’s house and restaurant for lunch. Here, his wife had a lunch buffet of the local cuisine waiting for us.

Everything was so tasty and such a change from the customary food we had been eating at the resort.

Post lunch it was back in the vans and off to Toraille Waterfall.

Here we were able to swim under the falls in freezing cold water! Quite the opposite from the water at the mud bath!!

After our stop at the falls, we were taken back to the dock at Soufriere, where we caught the speedboat back to our resort.

We made it back to the Grande in the late afternoon with plenty of time left in our day for some sun and relaxation! Overall, a wonderful day with a very informative tour guide. Simon was awesome and really kept the group engaged with fun and interesting facts about St. Lucia and the places we were visiting on our tour.

Who says? Simon says!!!

This excursion is not included in the all-inclusive aspect of Sandals.
