Looking Forward to Tonight!

by Jenny on April 9, 2011

Good afternoon!!!  Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable Friday night and that Saturday has been great so far as well!  I was able to get out of work early last night since the rain cancelled our event but I was back in the office at 1pm today to get started for tonight’s event.  Then as soon as work is over I’ll be on my way to see Brian for two nights!!!  I can’t wait! :)

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was a slight variation of my typical pre-long run meal of a peanut butter and banana sandwich – except today’s was made on the cinnamon raisin walnut bread that I got at the Baltimore Farmer’s Market

Favorite Sandwich!

Another change – I also put it in the panini maker to give it a warm, toasty finish.

One last difference – I added some syrup on the side for dipping.

So delicious!  Almost tasted like a french toast peanut butter and banana sandwich (minus the egg)!

Not only was breakfast so tasty but it also did an awesome job fueling me for my workout.

Workout

I  knew i wanted to get in between 8 and 10 miles today in addition to doing some upper body lifting and I also knew I had to work in my core circuits that I skipped yesterday, so I came up with a complete circuit workout to make my time in the gym fly by!

I mixed my miles in with my strength training and core workout for what ended up looking like this:

  • 1 mile at 7.5 mph
  • 1st core workout circuit
  • 1 mile at 7.5 mph
  • 2nd core workout circuit
  • 2 miles at 7.5 mph
  • 3rd core workout circuit
  • 3 miles at 7.5 mph
  • 4th core workout circuit
  • 2 miles at 7.5 mph
  • upper body free weight exercises*
  • .5 mile at 6.0 mph
  • .5 mile at 4.0 mph

*The upper body free weight exercises were:

  • Row (15lbs)
  • Tricip Extensions (10 lbs)
  • Overhead Press (10 lbs)
  • Chest Press (15lbs)
  • Shoulder Raises (5lbs)
  • Bicep Curls (5lbs)

I did each exercise for 15 reps and 2 complete sets.

I was drenched through my whole workout!!  I definitely felt like I was getting some serious work in!  Woohoo! :)

What a workout!

When I made it back to the apartment, I immediately put together a smoothie bowl to refuel.

In the mix:

  • 1 shakeology pack
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries
  • pinch of xantham gum
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • handful of spinach
  • 5 ice cubes

The smoothie ended up being just what I needed.  It was thick and creamy and hit the spot!!  Chocolate Covered Raspberry?  Yes, please!

After being at work for a bit, I took a break for lunch.

Turkey on a sandwich thin with a mozzarella and sun-dried tomato laughing cow cheese wedge, spinach and pepper slices.

On the side I had a hard-boiled egg and some grapes.  I’m starving after such an intense workout this morning so I’m sure I’ll be eating plenty more throughout the day!

Egg!

Green Grapes!

As for now…back to work!!

Soooo excited to head to PA to see Brian tonight!!!!! Definitely getting me through the afternoon and evening at work!

As gross as it is, I love being drenched during a workout since I know that I’m really working then!! I have a race on the schedule at the end of this month but I’m actually up in the air as to if I’m going to do it or not (just because of a schedule conflict) but I figure if I keep up intense training whenever I do put a race in, I’ll be ready :)
