On the way back to reality

by Jenny on February 21, 2011

I’m on the flight home from Florida and already missing the warm weather and B.  Unfortunately, we had to part ways today and I won’t see him again until next week.  I know it doesn’t sound like long but I hate being away from him!  I’m already counting down till I get to see him again…8 days!! ;)

This morning’s run was a really good one on a trail around the area where we were staying.  My running partner, Natalie, and I ended up going about 6.75 miles and the 50+ minutes flew by as we were chatting away.  I love having someone to run with; I’m a fan of long runs alone when I need time to clear my mind but time always seems to go faster and the miles seem much shorter when you are distracted chatting with a friend.  I’m also really excited because Natalie told me about a 1/2 marathon she is running next month with a friend and I’ve decided to sign up now.  Looking forward to half marathon #4!!  Do you like running with a partner or taking it solo?

After I got back from my run I did a cardio/strength training circuit workout that consisted of:

Circuit #1:

Squats with Presses (x13)

Backwards Lunge with Shoulder Raises (x16 on each leg)

Chair Squat with Arm Raises (x10)

Pushouts (x13)

Circuit #2:

Deadlifts with Hammercurls (x10)

Bicep Curls (x12, alternate arms when repeating)

Forward Lunges with Bicep Curls (x13 on each leg)

Alternating Side Lunges with Bicep Curls (x13)

Circuit #3

Tricep Kickbacks (x16)

Sumo Squat with Tricep Extensions (x 10)

Surrenders (x8)

Crescent Pose with Tricep Push Backs (x14 on each leg)

I used either 3lb or 5lb weights for all of the exercises.  When I do straight up strength training I use higher weights, but since I am constantly moving in this workout to keep my heart rate up, the lighter weights are what work for me.  I don’t know if my arms could handle anymore!

I repeated each circuit twice and the whole workout took me a little under 20 minutes.  Look familiar??  It’s part of Jillian Michaels, No More Trouble Zones.  If you have never tried her workout DVDs before, I highly recommend them…especially NMTZ and 30 Day Shred.  LOVE LOVE LOVE them both!

B and I made lunch together after I showered and was all fresh and clean!  B tried something new had his typical burrito bowl (rice, beans, chicken and cheese) while I had an amazing chicken, apple and goat cheese “panini” for me.  I obviously didn’t have my panini maker with me in Florida so I had to settle for toast and apples heated in a pan but it was still delicious!  Yummm!

Chicken, Cinnamon Cranberry Goat Cheese and Apple!! Little blurry picture but yummy lunch!

After lunch and some relaxing, we headed to get my last taste of Yogurt Mountain…so sad!  I had peanut butter fro-yo with pretzels, chocolate chips and banana…delicious!!  B opted for no yogurt this time…I think I had him on overload after going everyday during the trip.

Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pretzels with Banana?!

When we were leaving Yogurt Mountain we saw that Borders in the area was going out of business and everything was on sale!  We stopped in and did some browsing of what they had to offer.  We checked out cookbooks, games and novels.  I ended up coming out with two books…The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Perfection.  I’ve heard good things about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and can’t wait to dive into it when I finish my current read, The Glass Castle.

I hope everyone had a great Monday…whether you were off for the holiday or had to work!  I can’t wait to be home and climb directly into my bed!!  Be back with more for you tomorrow…

Dragon Tattoo (and the 2 books that follow) is really good!! Love NMTZ too but can’t quite make it through the last circuit. She’s tough!
