I can’t believe it has been one year since tragedy struck at UVA.
Yeardley Love was brutally attacked and killed by her one-time boyfriend George Hughley.
The Love family is from my area and I actually went to the same high school as Yeardley and her sister, Lexie. My sister is a science teacher at our alma mater and knew Yeardley very well. I can still remember her phone call one year ago today to tell me about the unbelievably sad and tragic incident that had taken place.
I have to say though, that amongst all of the sorrow and emotions, something wonderful has come to be. The One Love Foundation was formed by Yeardley’s family and friends to keep her legacy alive.
Because of this foundation, Yeardley will always be remembered, not just through memories but through scholarships, athletic awards, memorial fields….the list continues to grow.
If you aren’t familiar with Yeardley’s story or with the foundation, take a minute to visit its website. What a great way to continue to keep someone so special’s spirit alive.
This article was posted on SI.com today and, I believe, says some touching things about the Love family and how they have shown the epitome of strength and class during this unimaginably difficult year.
It’s unbeliveably sad that incidents like this take place and occur in our world today, however, sometimes they give way for wonderful things to bloom.
Please keep Yeardley and her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers today.
